New standard for SHEV controllers published

D+H smoke vent control panels satisfy the requirements of DIN 18232-9 and are certified by VdS in accordance with ISO 21927-9

An important part of the standard DIN 18232-9, which sets out the requirements for smoke and heat exhaust ventilation, has been revised and was published by DIN in December. This means that the requirements for power supplies and the minimum requirements for control panels are now clearly defined. D+H smoke vent control panels are certified to this effect by VdS and satisfy the minimum requirements in accordance with ISO 21927-9 which have been incorporated into DIN 18232-9. This means even greater planning certainty for architects and planners involved in the project planning of smoke and heat exhaust ventilation systems.

ISO 21927-9 and EN 12101-10 were published some time ago and regulate the testing of control panels and power supplies. The newly published version of DIN 18232-9:2021-12, which contains a reference to ISO 21927-9, defines clear minimum requirements for the testing of smoke vent control panels in relation to operating safety and environmental classification. Furthermore, DIN 18232-9 also defines the housing colour of the smoke vent buttons (RAL 2011 deep orange).

These changes to the standard give architects and planners greater planning certainty. As the minimum requirements are defined, this increases transparency in relation to the quality of individual construction products. The result is even better assurance that the products will function properly in case of fire. In conclusion, these clear guidelines provided by the standard protect against possible deviations and any cost claims that may result over the course of a project. In addition, issues of liability can be determined with greater certainty from the beginning of the project. Lastly, the standards simplify the procedures during the acceptance of products and projects.

”Finally, specialist planners and architects once again have quality standards to refer to in the area of safety and security technology, and especially in the area of fire protection,” says Christian Kluge, Head of Development at D+H Mechatronic AG. “When you use smoke vent control panels by D+H you have peace of mind, because our products satisfy these updated standards – and are also certified accordingly by VdS.“
