D+H BeLux installs a total of 19 BlueKit systems

In the centre of Luxembourg City, ideas were sought for a replacement for the Hamilius Bus Station on Boulevard Royal. The municipality decided to replace the station and its adjacent buildings with a multi-purpose complex including residential, office and retail space. The implementation of the ROYAL HAMILIUS project has also successfully integrated new tram lines as well as the revamped mobility concept.

This multifunctional project was brought to fruition by the British architectural firm Foster + Partners in collaboration with the Luxembourg architects Tetra Kayser. The complex consists of six buildings comprising 7,500 m² of living space, 10,000 m² of office space, 16,000 m² of retail and restaurant space, 2,500 m² of public space and gardens and 630 parking spaces.

BlueKit systems are components in all lift shafts

As a partner in this large-scale project, D+H BeLux installed a total of 19 BlueKit systems. The BlueKit systems developed by D+H are a component in all the lift shafts. This fulfils legal environmental requirements and ensures the building is airtight. Following the complete implementation of the project over a period of more than three years, the D+H systems are now serviced annually by D+H BeLux technicians to ensure their efficient operation.

The project has seen D+H BeLux finding creative special solutions to be able to meet customer requirements. At the same time, energy efficiency within the complex has been the guiding principle of D+H's contribution. This project has required many modifications with customised solutions for specific lift shafts. The dimensions of the ventilation flaps and roof vents, for example, had to be adapted to specific needs. For the firefighters' lift shafts, the BlueKit solution was combined with a smoke pressure system.

Customised solutions – reduced energy requirements

The installation of the BlueKit systems helps reduce the energy requirements in the buildings, lowers CO2 emissions and ensures safety in case of fire. Comfort is continuously maintained, even if someone gets stuck in a lift car, as there is a safe supply of fresh air at all times.

D+H BeLux’s staff worked closely with engineering firm Felgen in advance of construction to both design and dimension the ventilation openings of the lift shafts. After selecting the lift constructor, the D+H BeLux team worked intensively with KONE BeLux project managers and technicians to synchronise operations. This resulted in perfect coordination, from installation planning right through to commissioning of the BlueKit systems.
