D+H provides The Fontenay, a five-star-superior hotel in Hamburg, with an additional dose of safety and fresh air.
The Fontenay is a new grand hotel with 130 rooms, including 17 suites, and is located right in the middle of the Hanseatic city of Hamburg on the shore of the Alster lake. Three and a half years passed between the development of the proposal by the renowned Hamburg-based architectural firm Störmer Murphy and Partners and the opening in March 2018. It is no wonder. The architecture of the five-star-superior hotel is outstandingly impressive after all. The Fontenay's floor plan is made up of three large circles flowing into each other. They merge in the centre, where they provide space for a glazed inner courtyard planted with trees and an enclosed atrium 27 metres tall. A curved glass façade measuring 14,000 square metres floods the area with light and allows for an unobstructed view of the Alster lake.
In this façade, 50 BSY+ chain drive sets from the CDC Series are installed. This project has one very notable aspect. The circular shapes of the building necessitated developing 100 customised CDC bracket sets that could be fastened to the window profile for outward-opening side-hung windows. The chain drives have been installed so that they are integrated into the window profile. They open outwards. Alongside the exterior effects of wind, water and air, burglary protection had to be taken into account in the design engineering. The concealed window drive solutions from D+H thus perfectly blend with the aesthetics of the luxury hotel. Their low operating noise is unheard of and provides guests with the highest comfort and safety in case of fire.
