Precision meets versatility – innovative ventilation solutions in the new cultural centre at Ground Zero
With its mosaic-like marble façade and variable room concept, the Perelman Performing Arts Center (PAC) in the heart of Manhattan in New York City is setting new standards in architecture, technology and sustainability. Opaque during the day and softly glowing at night, the building, designed by REX, Davis Brody Bond and Joshua Prince-Ramus, combines artistic freedom with technical precision.
The cultural centre, which has been certified as a LEED Silver project, offers almost unlimited possibilities for use thanks to its movable walls, adjustable stages and flexible seating. To ensure that this flexibility is accompanied by an optimised indoor climate and a high level of safety, an intelligent ventilation system from D+H partner Automated Fenestration Inc (AFI) was installed.
In combination with an AFI control unit, the KA series window drives open and close the marble panels, thereby controlling the natural air intake and exhaust. The system adapts the ventilation precisely to the changing requirements of the rooms and therefore ensures optimum room comfort. Thanks to its precise control, it offers an energy-efficient alternative to conventional air conditioning. D+H products can be discreetly integrated into the façade, thus contributing not only to the sustainability of the building, but also to its harmonious overall concept.
The Perelman Performing Arts Center is therefore an impressive example of how technology, aesthetics and sustainability can come together in perfect harmony.
