D+H custom solution for the 5-star hotel in Hamburg
“The Fontenay”, a new luxury hotel by the Alster river in Hamburg, provides a prime example showing that D+H has more than just products. The specialist and leading provider of solutions for smoke extraction and natural ventilation has developed a custom solution for the 14,000 m² glass façade of “The Fontenay” luxury hotel. Alongside the exterior effects of wind, water and air, burglary protection also required due consideration.
“The Fontenay” is a new luxury hotel with 130 rooms, including 17 suites, and is located right in the middle of the Hanseatic city of Hamburg on the shore of the Alster river. A curved glass façade measuring 14,000 square metres floods the area with light and allows for an unobstructed view of the Alster river. D+H collaborated with its partner “Hübler Sicherheit und Service GmbH” and with the metal construction company “Montag GmbH” to install 50 BSY+ chain drive sets from the CDC Series in this façade. This project has one very notable aspect. The circular shapes of the building necessitated developing 100 customised CDC bracket sets for outward-opening side-hung windows. "By developing the integrated wooden window frame brackets as a custom solution, D+H was able to satisfy the architectural requirement both in terms of costs and in terms of safety," says Florian Kröger, head of the customer centre of D+H Deutschland GmbH. As a company specialising in smoke extraction and natural ventilation, D+H offers its customers not only systems designed for individual needs, but comprehensive and expert property consulting as well. "The chain drives have been installed so that they are integrated into the window profile and open outwards. In the case of such buildings it is always important for the design to take into account not only the external effects of wind, water and air, but also burglary protection.” Relocating the bracket solution necessitated an integrated installation of the drives to prevent manual emergency unlocking from the outside, thereby preventing unauthorised access.
The D+H Group now consists of eight service and sales companies and more than 130 partners as well as customers all around the globe. D+H has now successfully completed several projects together with its partner Hübler as well as the metalworking company Montag, for example, for Museum Barberini in Potsdam. Thanks to this tried-and-tested cooperation, D+H was able to complete the customised bracket sets for “The Fontenay” in just two weeks — with the highest “Made in Germany” quality customers have come to expect. The concealed window drive solutions from D+H fit perfectly into the aesthetics of the luxury hotel, which was designed by the renowned Hamburg architectural firm “Störmer Murphy and Partners”. Their low operating noise is unheard of and provides guests in the 5-star-hotel with the highest comfort and safety in case of fire.
